For Everything There is a Season
I think the words instruct us in patience. God intends us to be patient with ourselves, with each other, with the inconveniences of time passing, and with the tumult brought about by change as the world continues to turn, turn, turn. Nothing lasts forever. We need to adapt to the season.
Right now our season is Advent. It’s not Christmas. Not yet. Advent is our opportunity to listen, to take time to be quiet, and to grow closer to God in the stillness of waiting. What has happened? We’ve allowed the noise of commercialism to fill the silence. We forget we are waiting to celebrate the birth of our Savior, the greatest moment to be commemorated. Instead we are waiting for a party, and because we are too impatient, we start the party before the Christmas season and completely miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime, which has nothing to do with a Holiday Sale. It has everything to do with our quest for holiness.
Perhaps we all need to Turn Turn Turn around and embrace the Advent Season before we turn to the Christmas Season. Let it happen in its own time. Christmas will come!
Even the celebration of Christmas will have changes every year. Perhaps a different home, maybe the absence of a loved one, or the addition of a new member. In our home, once filled with children, we now have very few children and many adults! So, the way we celebrate is different than it used to be. Favorite ornaments have broken, traditions have evolved. Not bigger, not better, just changed in its own season. We must learn to practice the Waiting for the season. And adapt to the changes in each season.
