Airport Travel Chaos
This was a day for me to feel overwhelming gratitude to my husband who did this several times a week for 34 years, wearing a suit and tie, shined shoes, and always a smile. He came and went at inconvenient times in order to make a ballgame or Cub camp out. He'd leave Monday before we were awake in order to have the weekend with us. I don't think any of us ever appreciated that enough. I'm sure we didn't tell him enough. Even for those who enjoy the challenges of delays, cancelations, racing to make connections, business travel isn't the cushy, glamorous job it appears.
There weren't many businessmen on our flights today, mostly families, students, and golfers. But, I know tomorrow morning they'll be dropped off at the Kiss and Ride or curbside checking or in line for a rental car, attired handsomely, carrying their briefcases, ready to slay the dragons yet another week for their families.
Admire them, thank them. I'm going to tell mine thank you for all the miles and smiles. You deserve a quiet retirement, Honey. This has been a long day. However did you do it over and over?
