MUSH!
I think youngsters today probably don’t have quite that much winter down-time on their hands. Today they have “Winter Break,” Martin Luther King Weekend, Valentine Dances, all to look forward to and plan for. For us in those olden days, January till spring was a long, monotonous time, mushing through the slush to school and back.
In our Church liturgical year, this is Ordinary Time. Vestments return to green, Mass schedules settle down to Normal, we put one foot in front of the other, and move into the new year with hope and gladness.
Here in our new old bungalow on the coast, we’ll put away Christmas this weekend and study the garden catalogues, looking forward to spring with hope and new gardening gloves.
