No One Does It Alone
I’m a project person; drove my mom crazy when I was a youngster. I built puppet theaters, miniature gardens, snowman families, sewed projects on her sewing machine, painted boards, wrote books and tied them together with shoelaces. Always had a project going on. My projects always involved other poor souls, who, however inconvenient, stopped what they were doing to help me find materials and tools and share their expertise. Most often it was Grandad who had a shed with a broken window, rusty hinges, and leftover lumber. He also had time, patience, tolerance, and tools. All of which I needed.
Dave and I have had a project together this year that involved many people. It was the new old house we bought at the start of the year. We’ve finished Phase One, which is the restoration of exterior and interior of the house. It’s involved many people. Without them, this couldn’t have been accomplished. Phase Two, the gardens and the guest house, will soon follow. I know there will be many more people heading our way with that! The lawns, the last, will be done in the spring. How blessed we’ve been to have met people along the way who’ve been interested, curious, welcoming, helpful, and encouraged us in so many ways, and whose friendship we continue to cherish and enjoy. Now is the time to say thank you.
You’re Invited Sunday, December 2
1-4 PM
Open House & House Blessing
206 East Queen Street, Edenton, circa 1790
Deanna and Dave Klingel have much to be grateful for, and you are part of that. The restoration project of our new-old house is complete, and we’d like to share it with new friends who welcomed us to the community, supportive neighbors who’ve been helpful and encouraging, the craftsmen, artisans, specialists, and historians who brought expertise to the project, and former residents of the house who shared history and stories about their home.
It’s time to enjoy the fruits of cooperative labor; come see for yourselves how it’s all turned out. Dawson Tyler of DownEast Preservation will be here to show you the 1790 discoveries and answer restoration questions. Meet former residents who breathed life into the plaster and who can tell you great stories of the house and neighborhood. See the plans for the restoration of the Marie Wheeler Gardens (1940s- 1980) already underway.
Refreshments will be served 1-4, with tours, meet-and-greet, and conversation. At 3 PM, Rev. Carlos Arce will bless the house; all are welcome.
We hope you can come – your family members are also invited – and celebrate with us as we thank you and look forward to happy years ahead in our new old home in beautiful Edenton, that you’ve helped to make happen.
Sincerely,
Deanna & Dave Klingel
