How Little We Need
The floor process required everything on every floor to be moved. Closets, cupboards, drawers, cabinets, shelves; all of it. Now it all has to be cleaned and put away. This was a much bigger deal than we planned. But, it has turned out to be a grand cleansing time. If the dress hasn’t been out of the closet in the past year, why does it need to go back in? If this "doo dad" in the drawer has been there so long I didn’t know I still had it, why do I need that?
How much stuff do we need? Scripture tells us God will provide everything we need, as we need it. Basic science tells us we only need three things: shelter, food, water. The sparrows all believe that and manage just fine. So while I’m sorting through all our stuff, thankful that I’m not a collector but a minimalist by nature, I wonder where all this stuff came from? Living accumulates things, doesn’t it, like moss on stones? But do we have to surround ourselves with stuff we don’t need, want or use? And in doing so become so used to being buried in things not from God that fail to see what He has provided for us? I’m afraid that’s exactly what happens, and probably to most of us. It’s time to purge. The only one who isn’t going to be happy about this is my trashman.
