Old Sweater and Old Car
“Mrs. Klingel, I know you really love your car. It’s served you well for almost 300,000 miles. I know we’ve talked before, and you are attached to it. You’ve got a lot of cockpit hours. But…”
“Why do I have the feeling I’m about to get bad news?”
I don’t get attached to many things. If you compliment something I have, I’ll likely give it to you. But I love my car. Dave calls it Deanna’s Mobile Distribution Center. IBM moved us every two years for many years. Out with the old, just like that, I could give everything away. It’s just a house. But this car…
I feel the same way about an old ratty sweater I’ve had for years. I throw it on for comfort. I might give away a new designer outfit, but can’t part with this old wool sweater that is misshapen, stretched, and mended. Who would want it anyway? It’s just a sweater. Oh well. In with the new. It’s just a car.
