Why Go To Writers’ Conferences?
Other writers and readers have asked on different occasions if conferences are really worthwhile or necessary. My answer is, “Only if you want to write well, and sell your book.” Writing is a skill and must be learned and honed. Skills can always be improved with new knowledge and practice, even if you are a pro.
Why would you want to write or sell an okay book if you could write a good book? Why would you settle for selling a good book if you could sell a great book? Why would someone want to buy a book that was just okay when the market is flush with great ones? Why would anyone want to sell any product that wasn’t as good as it could be?
You might want to be the proverbial used car salesman who sells something for the sake of the sale. You write .....
Have you purchased that car or bought that book? Once you got past the great looking cover, there wasn’t much inside? Don’t sell that car or write that book. Give it an engine. Go to conferences, take classes from the experts; keep up with market news, innovations, changes. Invest your time and create something great. The return on that investment is return customers. So, yeah. Go.
