4th Station of the Cross: Jesus Meets His Mother
Walk:
Alone and in pain, Jesus carries the cross for the redemption of others’ sins. The cross itself is heavy, but so are the sins. Which sins are mine that are causing Him anguish? He did this for me.
Pray: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Meditation:
Jesus looks in the crowd for a face, one that shows love, compassion, and understanding. He sees His mother. She is overcome with sorrow and pain for Him and for herself. He accepts her love in a glance, and hurts for her. When Jesus looks my way, what does He see on my face? Does He see me looking at Him, or am I looking away? Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by life. It’s so competitive, sometimes cruel. We worry about the future and those who want to control it. Sometimes it’s hard to take one more step. We don’t have to take it alone. We must remember, He did this for us.
Walk:
I’m walking beside you, Jesus. Look at me. See that I love you and will try to make your walk easier. Never let me look away. When I see others struggling to take the next step, looking lonely, sorrowful and in pain, turn my face toward them. Tell me what to do to make their walk easier. I’ll take the next step beside you. You did this for me.
