The Third Station of the Cross, Jesus Falls for the First Time
As the procession passes through the city gates, they head toward the barren land beyond. Many have come to see. Mostly they are women. The men were busy preparing lambs to be killed for Passover. The Roman soldiers are leading “the lamb of God” to the slaughter.
Exhausted and trembling under the weight He collapses. He did this for me.
We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
In Jesus’ time, crucifixion was the punishment reserved for the lowest of society, meant to dishonor and humiliate. Our God Made Flesh, Jesus, gave himself up for denigration and He assumed the vulnerabilities of the human body. He did this for me.
I walk humbly with Jesus today. He has taught me humility. His example shows me that my weakness makes me stronger, and makes me more accepting of the weaknesses of others. Filled with His love and spirit, I am called to be increasingly humble.
