Let Opportunities Come Calling
I went sightseeing on my own.
I visited the beautiful and world famous Brookgreen Gardens. I’ve been there several times, but I’ve always been with others who drove to a parking area, walked around the visuals there, then drove to the next area. I’d never seen what was in the middle. I’d never paused to see the full scope, or grasped the entire plan. I had a beautiful walk through daffodils and sculptures, trees with draped moss, and birds. I got lost, even with the map in my hand, and almost missed the boat tour through the marsh. It was a glorious spring day. Birds sang in the moss-draped trees and the turtles basked in the sunshine.
Two alligators that were just warming up and becoming active for the tourist season, smiled as I approached. The guide pointed out wood duck boxes on stakes, which I’ve seen in many places and knew what they were. But I learned that wood ducks fly at 30 mph. They fly ......................
I visited the beautiful gift shop. If I lived in the Myrtle Beach area I’d buy a year pass to Brookgreen Gardens just to shop for gifts in this shop. Birthdays, hostess gifts, thank you presents, just about anything for any age, are all there. I’m not talking about souvenirs. So much nicer than the mall! I asked to see the manager-buyer. Now they also carry Beth’s Birds in their gift shop! I hope Little Beth will pop up in homes all over the country traveling in tot-sized back packs home from Myrtle Beach vacations. I’ll be sure to notify the buyer when the second Little Beth comes out. This series is perfect for their shop.
Marketing, selling something you love, is better than a sales job. It becomes a way of life. Dave jokes about my minivan being “Deanna’s mobile distribution center.” I live in my car and so do my books. One never knows when true marketing opportunities will come your way, like little surprise gifts from God. Be ready! I didn’t go to Brookgreen Gardens to make a sales call. But there it was. I’m so glad I had the books with me. It didn’t interrupt my lovely visit to the gardens; it completed it. Have everything you need ready for presentation, including yourself, wherever you go.
