Animals, Beer, and Books
I hope those of you in the area will join me at Sanctuary Brewing Company, 147 1st Avenue East in Hendersonville, NC. I’ll be signing my two dog books to help raise some money for the brewers’ favorite charities: rescue, sanctuary, and adoption.
The two co-owners, Joe Dinan and Lisa McDonald, combine their skills and talents to run this interesting brewery-pub-sanctuary. Joe is a highly regarded brewer, and Lisa is active in rescue. Together they manage their brewery and are committed to enriching the lives of both humans and animals. Their home and their business is a cruelty free environment for every living creature.
They foster, rescue, and adopt on their 3-acre farm where they have 12 animals of their own. In addition, Lisa cares for the goats who reside at the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site and Library in Flat Rock, NC, a short drive from Hendersonville.
At their business they have a menu of good food, good beer, and a calendar of events to help their furry and feathered friends. For instance, on Saturday mornings at 10, for $5.00 (which is a donation for cats) patrons can participate in Yoga With Cats. Wednesdays are Adoption Days with one of their many shelter partners. Sanctuary Brewing helps to offset the cost of adoptions. Once a month there is a Pup Crawl, co-sponsored with Southern Appalachian Brewery, which brings us back to why I will be here next Saturday, September 9, afternoon from 3-5 with Just for the Moment: The Remarkable Gift of the Therapy Dog, and Walker Hound of Park Avenue. I’m the “feature”of their Pup Crawl and I can hardly wait! All you craft beer and animal lovers, come on. Come do this.
Joe and Lisa are also interested in the welfare of the humans on the streets of Hendersonville. Outside their tap room, there is a line strung along the wall where articles of clothing are hung. The sign informs: Hang what you don’t want; Take what you need. I’ll be taking a couple winter coats along to hang up for someone this winter. Here’s an easy and fun way to make a difference in the lives of animals and people. Have some lunch, drink some brew, pet some pups, buy a book, and you’ve made a contribution.
