Back Home for the Holidays!
My first day in Jackson, I went to a nail salon. The technician was chatty and complimented my strong nails. She wondered why I kept them short. I told her I used the computer every day and long nails didn’t work for me. She asked what I did, and I told her. She’s a great reader, she said. The conversation took off from there. She took my card and was already searching the website as I put my jacket on, promising to return. “Oh, great!” she shouted. “I’ll have my own author!” I sold some books that day. The only sales technique employed was shopping locally and being friendly.
The next day I followed a tourist brochure from the Chamber of Commerce to the Old Flovilla School House built in 1885. (See my blog.) The door was locked and no one was around. Around the corner was a fire station. I talked to a fireman who was surprised it wasn’t open. He picked up the phone and told the operator who he wanted to talk to. Yes, just like Andy Griffin!
