Father Tien Duong’s life us an amazing and inspiring story of perseverance in following God’s call in the face of severe trials and testings. Father Duong pursued his vocation to the priesthood, knowing God would always be faithful. The kind priest who taught the young Tien in sixth grade gave him sound advice for his life’s journey. Trust God. Always, trust God.”—Most Reverend Peter J. Jugis, Bishop of Charlotte
“Nine years ago my husband And I, along with our children, left the turmoil of Zimbabwe to begin a new life in Australia. God can be trusted! Loving the book.”—Mandy Durand, Australia

“I want to thank you for the wonderful book and talk yesterday. There have been many positive comments from teachers and students about your visit; we have had students already wanting to check out Bread Upon the Water from the library. Your ministry of writing good and appropriate literature for young people is critical in reclaiming the minds and hearts of our youth. You will remain in my prayers and I hope that we will have an opportunity to have you visit our school again in the future. --Diane Buckley, Director of Sacramental Programs, Holy Trinity Middle School, Charlotte, NC
“I’m writing to nominate Deanna Klingel’s Bread Upon the Water published by Rafka Press, copyright 2012 for the 2013 Orbis Pictus Award.’ Nomination from Laurie Power, Runnemede, NJ who sent me a copy of the nomination letter she sent to Orbis Pictus Committee Chair.
“…Ms. Klingel engaged the children immediately with various items relevant to the story. She had photographs to show the children and tales of her actual meetings with Father Tien Duong. Ms. Klingel exhibits a wonderful, soft spoken ease with the students. After she spoke there was plenty of time for questions and opportunities to view the book as well as previews of her next two upcoming novels for young adults.—Patty Lyver, Librarian, Holy Trinity Catholic School, Longs, SC
“I’m a young reader (15 years old) and I read Bread Upon the Water and found it interesting, but I was wondering if you could recommend any other books on the same subject matter, and nonfiction. Thanks, Anthony”—Anthony Mathis, Chattanooga, TN
“While at the National Catholic Educators Convention in Houston, I recommended our book to over 150 educators. I know this number because I gave out that many handouts at my presentation. I talked to the Daughter’s of Saint Paul’s about including your book in their new TEEN program.”—Virginia Wiedenfeld, Notre Dame Catholic School Library, TX
“Here in North America, many Catholics have become indifferent. Contrast that to the Catholics in developing countries who often walk miles to attend Mass…This man’s determination is inspiring…Although the target audience is young adult, I highly recommend this ook to everyone, young and old. Reading Duong Tien’s story could certainly help us all appreciate the gift of our Catholic faith.”—Ellen Gable Hrkach, Award-winning Author, Pakenham, Ontario
“This is an inspiring true story…Excellent, easy read.”—Mary Ann Hinson, via Amazon
“This story brought tears to my eyes. This young man whom God chose to be His priest was protected as the title suggests by the special Bread Cat Upon the Water. A Bread that he would one day Consecrate. The author did a wonderful service to many of us who lived through that time albeit in the USA. The people thn had unbelievable strength and courage. Our adopted son left Saigon as it fell to the communists. He was a 2 year old and du to the havy traffic on the day he was to be put on the Baby Airlift, he missed it. He became an outstanding student, graduated from Harvard, has a successful career and a family of seven children. Thank you for this story.”—Mary Ann Erickson, Freeport, New York
“Inspirational Story. I really enjoyed the story about this man’s journey towards priesthood. It was an inspiration and a great biography even with the fiction thrown in.”—Christopher Yakkel, Amazon
